But don’t think the blog has been forgotten.  We are currently working on a massive re-design of the blog, and we want you to contribute!  We are expanding the functionality and user base of the blog to create a hub for the Georgia transplant community.

What does this mean?

1) We will be expanding the contributor base to include not only staff members, leaders in the transplant community and health care professionals, but also open it up to individuals as a way to share their story and get connected on a local level with other members of the community.  Whether you are a donor, a recipient, a family member, or have had your life affected by transplantation, we invite you to participate!

2) We want to allow people to use our blog as a platform to promote their own individual fundraising efforts as well as encourage each other along their journey through transplantation.

3) We are going to  make easily-available healthcare and GTF program information to allow people to know what resources are out there.

Regardless of what aesthetically-pleasing face lifts we give to the blog, it’s ultimate success as a community experience depends on the community!   We want to foster a sense of transplant community and individual connectivity that is at the heart of GTF’s mission.

Last year, over 1,500 riders shut down GA-400, and this year we hope to make it even bigger!

The ride starts at exit 7 of Georgia Route 400, and will wind through Sandy Springs, Milton, Roswell, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, and other scenic areas of North Fulton.

There are 8-mile, 25-mile, 63-mile, and 100-mile options. Registration is $45 and includes a t-shirt, food, water and full mechanical support along the route. The ride is open to anyone 14-years of age or older.

“As any biker will tell you, one rule of cycling is to avoid major highways at all costs.  The highway system might be the best route for motorists, but most people would be understandably hesitant to to join the high-speed traffic while sitting on a bike.

On July 11, however, riders from across Georgia are converging north of Atlanta to temporarily shut down Georgia State Route 44 (or just “400,” as it is know locally) for the 2nd Annual Hospitality Highway Century to benefit the Georgia Transplant Foundation.”

Bicyclists pedaled their way from the start at the former Home Depot in Roswell, down to Ga. 400 where they rode southbound from exit 7 to 6, and continued through the cities of Sandy Springs, Milton, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, as well as other scenic areas of North Fulton County and Cherokee Counties. Routes included the 9-mile ”I Did It” ride or the 31-mile, 61-mile, or 100-mile options.
